Today’s vase quite simply celebrates abundance and the best the garden has to offer. Almost all of the blooms in this chunky rectangular glass vase came from the cuttings beds and were picked purely for their gloriousness and without any consideration of colour combination. The joy of being able to pick such a quantity of blooms, such a variety of colour, such a variation in shape and formation is barely describable and the above photo does not really do the end result justice. Holding the posy in my hands before placing it in the vase was a moment of pure joy and contentment with the garden and everything in it.
Within the abundance you may see several dahlias (Jowey Winnie, Glow, Duet, Karma Serena, Happy Halloween, Reggae orange, Happy Single Juliet, unknown large yellow), sunflower Italian White, Inula magnifica, Cosmos Click Cranberry, Larkspur Sublime Deep Blue, Alonsoa Scarlet, Antirrhinum Overture Rose, Amaranthus viridis, Salvia Neon, Cornflower Black Ball, Alstromeria Indian Chief, Daucus carota, Veronica spicata and maybe other things I have forgotten:

Your arrangement totally sums up that feeling of joy Cathy. I love the contrast of the spikes (is that the Veronica?) and the draping Amaranthus (I think) too. And hurrah for your Cosmos coming into flower. I also love the look of the dark cornflower on the left in the first photo- is that Black Ball?

Yes to the veronica, and to Black Ball; the cosmos have ben flowering for over a month, although now less sporadically than at first. I am glad you felt the joy too 🙂

Your vase does indeed runneth over – and it explodes with color too! Much as I love your dahlias, it’s the amaranth that grabbed my attention. And can your amaranthus be used as a natural dye? Don’t think the amaranthus we grow in the UK self seeds, certainly hasn’t done up to now – but germination is always excellent so I can see why it could self seed

Wow!!! I imagine that you had mega goosebumps when you put that vase together Cathy. Such vibrant rich colour as well as a plethora of treasures. Yes, that’s definitely it, Anna – rejoicing in the fruits of my labours – although I wasn’t conscious of that at the time as all these activities are just ‘routine’ things I do. I was a ware of the insect, a hoverfly I think, at the time and was trying to include him mid hover but he was determined to land!
