XXX.IV.XVI
Marriage is not merely joining like minds,
Exchanging promises, vows and wedding rings;
Not just hearts and bodies and being kind;
But daily chores and less endearing things
And sharing all that life has got to throw
With honesty and compassionate ways –
The drabness, euphoria, highs and lows,
The good, the bad, the all but ugly days –
Properly listening, talking one-to-one,
Exploring feelings, thoughts and sharing plans,
Saying ‘I love you’ when each day is done,
Nurturing forgiveness as best you can.
But for real happiness both now and after
Base this marriage on friendship and laughter.
