Thanks Cathy – the caryopteris is such a true blue but sadly on quite a woody and unattractive plant and I have considered taking it out…
They are hard to keep looking nice here too. But they don’t always make it through the winter, which solves the problem! 🤪 I am always tempted to try again though, and my current one is in year three…..

I don’t think I am familiar with the shrub, sounds rangy?
I have not seen it around much and should perhaps check out a revcommended pruning regime to see if I can keep it in shape better – at the moment the only thing to recommend it is the colour!

Queen Elizabeth II seems to have smiled most of the time, so she must have enjoyed gardening.
She is reputed to have had a good sense of humour too, Tony!

Caryopteris ‘Heavenly Blue’ is a most sublime colour and so aptly named Cathy. The floral wreath created for the Queen was touching and beautiful. A most momentous day indeed.
It’s a shame the caropteris shrub itself is so woody- I wonder if I can prune it back even harder than I usually do…? I liked the way the flowers for the wreath were picked from the various royal gardens (although presumably not be any royals themselves), just like IAVOM
It’s a lovely vase, Cathy. I like the looks of your Geoffrey Kent dahlia. I grew Arabian Nights years ago, but found it actually too dark for my taste; your GK looks like a very pleasant alternative!
I can’t help but feel how much sense of stability the Queen’s presence brought to the world; even here it’s had that effect. I hope that is a role which the new King will be able to carry on in his way.
Still no vase nor posts from me–am off to the doctor in a few minutes trying to resolve the weakness, etc, that have been interfering with my gardening and the rest of life! I don’t appreciate having my gardening efforts messed up by health issues!
So sorry to hear you have been ‘under the weather’ Amy – do you think it could be the repsonse to all the stresses of recent years? I really hope you can get the support you need, whether medical or otherwise. This dahlia is a lovely ‘proper’ red – a more common alternative is ‘Blyton Lady in Red’, whch is very similar – I wonder if it is available in the US? You are so right about the Queen’s presence and stabilty – i think that’s exactly how most of us feel, but it took her death to make us realise it
