Just as I knew daffodils would appear in a Monday vase a few weeks ago, it was equally inevitable that there would be tulips in my vase today now that their season is just beginning to kick off. So here they are, five tulips in my ‘full moon’ vase (as I think of it), with a twig of twisted hazel to add another dimension. I am not convinced the twig adds anything, but I had changed its position so many times the tulip stems were in danger of being damaged, so I left it where it was.
Neither am I convinced, as the tulips began to open, that they are elegant ladies, as my scrap of paper, listing which tulips were planted in which tub or pot, stapled to a Peter Nyssen catalogue suggests. I have vague recollections of removing tulips from the container these were cut from and putting them elsewhere but, if so, didn’t note what was put in their place. Studying the aforementioned list might well yield which variety they actually are – if I have a spare moment! *
* my rare spare moment suggests they might be ‘Dynasty’ which, when it was first screened in the 1980s (not that I watched it myself), featured a number of ladies who would no doubt have considered themselves elegant. So yes, elegant ladies!!
Accompanying the vase is one of my numerous chicken egg cups (a vintage plastic example) with a nominal egg as a token nod to the Easter season. I am sure there will be other vases with a loosely Easter theme today – will one of them be yours? Ladies or not, the beauties above are not the only ones who have dropped in for Easter as you can see from the top photo, which also shows a number of orbs. Are they merely reflections of sunlight on specks of dust or are they balls of energy of some sort…? You decide for yourself – but please also note the blue orb in the bottom picture…

They are indeed lovely ladies, and I rather like that blue orb!! What a great tulip colour – if I was a lipstick wearing girl I would probably choose that gorgeous colour. Thanks Susie, they will start coming thick and fast now! I love this particular vase (from a car boot sale, surprise surprise!) and always admired a ‘flat’ one that Christina had – this one is perfect for tulips.
Of course I love the twisted stick. And the tulips – whoever they might be. Are tulips a short lived perennial for you? Most tulips are not reliably hardy in the UK, but some people will lift theirs and let them dry out before replanting next year. Too much faff for me, especially if they still won’t necessarily re-bloom 😉

The orb is an interesting effect! The tulips are lovely, whatever their name. I have the same kind of problems accounting for what I plant where in my cutting garden. My own “proper” tulips, sent to me by mistake by a mail order supplier late last year, have produced foliage but it remains to be seen whether I’ll get flowers, despite the 3 months they spent chilling in my refrigerator. Although I label the pots in the Coop, I don’t usually label the pots I plant outside with tulips, However, because some of my tulip purchases are not specifically planned and depend on bargains from Aldi or elsewhere, I won’t always remember what I have planted where although I do usually keep the packets so at least I know what I am looking for! This last year was the first time I have listed them like this, which would normally do the trick if I don’t change my mind and move them after I have first planted them! I think these are actually ‘Dynasty’, which I will make a note of on my post
The five ladies are most striking Cathy whether they are elegant or not 😄 My three pots of tulips are all showing flowers now but no colour yet. There is a specific photographic term for the orbs that you see in the photo but the name evades me at the moment. If it comes back to me I will let you know. Mine are probably all in bud but most are still tightly closed – hope some of yours show their faces soon! It’s always a shock to see orbs like this, whatever the reason , and that blue one is amazing!

I love the five tulips, they have a lovely color; and the twisted hazelnut sprig I really like. The full moon vase is divine and the tulips are magnificent, splendid: I love it. The vintage hen-shaped egg cup is charming with its Easter egg – I love it. The orbs, especially the blue one, are magical, even if they have a rational explanation of the camera lens and the light. Thanks Beth – I just grow them in tubs, apart from species tulips which return fairly reliably and a random few others which seem to hang about quite happily

Ah, tulips must be nice. I actually picked a few from a garden that is now abandoned. It seemed wrong to take them, but even more wrong to not take them. Anyway, I intend to eventually grow just a few to experience tulips again. It is one of those flowers that seems to be so much happier elsewhere.
An abandoned garden is such a sad thing…
