A Week of Flowers Day Six, 27th November 2020

Blogging friend Cathy of Words and Herbs needed something to cheer herself up and, guessing that others might be feeling the same, suggested that from Sunday the 22nd through to Saturday the 28th of November we shared one or more photos a day of earlier seasons in our gardens to brighten up what could be a dreary time.

Our dahlias were probably at their very best when this photo was taken, back in July, but they carried on performing into November and it is only today that I have lifted the last of them, after more than 5 months in flower. The memory of blooms like these is surely enough to carry us through these leaner months?

That brought a big smile to my face Cathy. 😁 Lovely to see your dahlias again. Such a great mix of colours and shapes. Five months of blooms is wonderful!

I shall be overhauling my dahlias next year, as there are a few I am not especially keen on, so shall be planning some new varieties instead and hopefully selling on my ‘rejects’ if we are able to open the garden in June.

I need some tall Dahlias. Mine were so short they were easily missed.

    • Cathy says:

I have made that mistake in the past, Beverly – but irt depends whereabouts in your garden you grow them of course. I have found none of mine really work in a border but are brilliant in the cutting beds

  3. Anna says:

Your dahlias thrived this year Cathy. You must have given them much in the way of tlc.

    • Cathy says:

They work really well in the cutting beds, Anna, and these were new beds for last year and had been well-manured – they were certainly taller than other years!

  4. Anna says:

Your dahlias certainly thrived this year Cathy. You must have given them much in the way of tlc. Not my best year for them.

  5. Fabulous! Cathy you are so good with your flowers
