…the Golfer, and a cattle drinker!
We had spotted it on a previous walk amidst a pile of scrap metal as we walked past farm outbuildings, but today there were farmworkers nearby so we took the opportunity of asking if we might have it. Having received permission, the Golfer insisted he would be ‘happy’ carrying it home, despite being at the furthest point of our walk and home being a couple of miles distant.
And bless him, he did, without complaint or verbal regret at his foolish decision! So we now have a cattle drinker as a feature for the garden or, to be more accurate, another cattle drinker, as we already have one housing a hosta:
OK, let’s be honest, we actually have TWO more cattle drinkers, as this was not the only one festering in the pile of scrap. Having changed his mind about picking up the second one on another walk, the Golfer fetched it in the car later that day. Two cattle drinkers means two vintage hosta planters – free, gratis and for nothing, unlike the first one which came from an outdoor antiques fair some years ago. Another productive walk!
Good find. How about one being a birdbath water.? Maybe not big enough?
You are right Beverley, they would make an ideal birdbath and I might actually consider than as an option …thanks for the prompt!
Love the golfer and the cattle drinker, my husband carries roadsidia home for me sometimes.
‘Roadsidia’ – what a great word!! I thought he was pretty foolish carrying it home, when it would have been far less taxing to come in th ecar and pick them both up later. ps you will only ever get the Golfer’s back view!
Men!!
What luck! That shape is interesting. The Golfer made a lot of points today. π
Yes, it was a lucky find, as they would probably just have been sold to the scrap man at some time in the future otherwise. And yes, the Golfer was as keen to have them as I was, but he gets no points for his foolishness in insisting he was OK to carry one home immediately though π
Oh what treasure! You have obviously been in the right place at the right time Cathy. I love the Golfer’s red socks π
Yes, we certainly didn’t get our existing one for nothing although we wouldn’t have paid what some people might be selling them for. And his red socks!! He has had nice striped socks for years but they are past their best now and on impulse he bought a pack of plain colours from Aldi – not waht he would normally choose, I think, but I suppose once they are on he doesn’t really see them till they come off again π
A lucky and lovely find!
Well, it is better than tire planters.
One man’s trash is another man’s planter.
Most definitely, Geri!
Wonderful find!
It was indeed!
