‘In a Vase on Friday…’

I couldn’t resist photographing and posting this – the completed collection of plant information labels for the forthcoming open days. Not that I have ever had as many different blooms as this in my Monday vase – I ran out of pea sticks so that means there are 50 different plant labels in this jug with about 20 more are needed. How I have managed to put together so many different plants to sell, I don’t know – and these are just the perennials! With dry weather forecast for at least the next week, today I have also been working out how best to display them and colour coding the labels to reflect different prices.

For those in the UK who aim to visit any  gardens opening for the National Garden Scheme this summer, did you know that as part of the NGS’s 90th birthday celebrations they are running a photography competition, with the chance to win a visit to Mary Berry’s garden?

  1. Heyjude says:

You are going to need a good long rest after all this!

I wondered what was up when I saw your post title appear in my feed. You ARE busy! I’m sure your open garden event is going to be a terrific success.

You are my inspiration! I cannot wait to hear your report on your Open Day and see your photos! I only wish I could attend but am too far away 😦

  4. Alison C says:

It all looks brilliant and I can see you are very well organised. Your plants look very healthy. I can testify to the fact that once you start propagating, you can’t stop and suddenly find yourself trying to water hundreds of pots in a dry spell!

    • Cathy says:

Thanks Alison. I would like to have had more plants at flowering stage but hopefully I have priced appropriately. And yes, I have the propogating bug now!

  5. Christina says:

Well done Cathy, you ARE maybe the most organised person I know; thanks for inspiring me.

    • Cathy says:

Thanks Christina – and yet I can assure you I am not a perfectonist! I have to admit that I have enjoyed the challenge of the preparation 😀

  6. Cathy her plants look healthy, beautiful and very well ordered. With the almost 70 types of plants to sell that only you can be so organized to get everything under control. Greetings from Margarita.

  7. As if it is not enough to get the garden ready for visitors, I am amazed you are selling plants and are so organized. As one who has opened my garden for tours I can barely imagine doing anything extra. Bravo!

    • Cathy says:

Selling plants and homemade cakes are real money spinners at open gardens here, Linda, and I have enjoyed preparing both so it’s win win 😀

Love the NGS, really inspiring to see other gardeners planting scheme

  9. Anna says:

Oh you have been industrious Cathy! That must have taken some time but I bet you had fun doing it 🙂

    • Cathy says:

It was a tip from Kate at Barn House Garden – I just made sure that I noted down each different plant when I potted it up and then did batches of the info labels every so often. And they will keep for other years of course, assuming we open again!

  10. Best of luck with your open garden. I hope you sell all and enjoy the day.

  11. What a brilliant idea, Cathy!

  12. Chloris says:

You busy bee. You could start a nursery. The information labels are a brilliant idea.

  13. Noelle says:

Had we not moved, I would have visited! All the best.

  14. Oh wow! I love this collection !
