not a moment too soon
How wonderful. First sunny warm day here too. Thankfully! Very hard frost last night. Still dare not plant anything out yet. Can hardly get in the greenhouse.
Thanks Karen – I have been beginning to plant things out since last week when we got back from my Mum’s, which I know is taking a risk. I could have been caught out on Tuesday night because temps were forecast of 5 degrees o/n even though the Golfer said he had heard a frost being mentioned. Perhaps I shuld have fleeced things because temps in the greenhouse were less than 2 degrees the next morning but everything outside was OK, fortunately! It’s fairly sheltered in that corner. My greenhouses were overflowing so it’s good to begin to have some space – potting things on doubles the space required so overflowing soon happens! Hope you feel confident to do start emptying yours soon, although it’s interesting to hear that you did have a hard frost that night
Just starting to move things outside. Tentatively. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year, and it’s been lovely this morning. But the garden is like dust. We so need rain. Just read it’s been the driest April for 30 years! Good luck with your planting x
Hopefully today (Monday)’s rain will do the trick… Hadn’t heard that 30 year statistic before
Will the roses still be in flower for the BIG DAY?
I was wondering that this morning Christina as I thought they might be a bit earlier than usual but I have just looked back on my blog and it is generally about mid May they start flowering although in 2014 it was the end of April! We are due rain tomorrow (hurrah!) and with lower temperatures they should slow down a bit, but yes, they will be fine by the open days unless it rains for weeks and all the petals drop off of course!
There’s something very special about the first summer roses, ZD is a favourite of mine for being so kind as to be thornless. Hope we get some rain here too, and soon would be most welcome.
In fact yesterday it felt that summer had arrived. And the first roses are absolute heaven. My ZD is not out yet. What a beauty.
Mme Alfred Carriere has a few blooms out too now
Yaaaaaay! It has certainly felt like summer the last few days. It’s even been to hot to venture in the greenhouse in the middle of the day without wilting. Your ‘Zéphirine’ is a fabulous early riser.
Certainly nearly 40 degrees in one of mine – and the sun on the back of my neck. But it’s all changing now with a bit of rain! 😀
