When I saw this ‘desktop’ Easter Island figure on the website from which I was ordering some troughs, and at only a couple of pounds, it was inevitable that it would be snapped up as a potential prop for Monday vases. And here it is, with a kitsch eBay vase, for my Easter Monday offering.
On the ‘island’ are a range of spring flowers, highlighting the variety and abundance of seasonal blooms whilst focussing on the sugary pastel colours on offer. Thus we have blossom from crab apple ‘Evereste’, Pulmonaria ‘Opal’, white Narcissus ‘Petrel’, Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’, Viola ‘Cool Wave Frost’, Clematis alpina ‘Constance’, bluebell Hyacinthoides non-scripta, Lamprocapnos spectabilis, Tulipa ‘Little Beauty’ and the humble wild flower red campion Silene dioica.
The vase has a removable lid with holes to insert the stems, but I supplemented this with a stainless steel frog to hold the stems firm. I have used it once before on IAVOM and although not an everyday vase it works well and does the job with today’s spring flowers, which I know will bring me a lot of pleasure over the next few days. I wonder what will be bringing you pleasure in your Monday vases… do share them with us by leaving links to and from this post in the usual way.
Pingback: In a vase on Easter Monday – Jewel colours and some froth – Creating my own garden of the Hesperides
Spring, spring, spring – your vase shouts it out loud!! Lovely combination of colours, I like the vase. Where did you buy your frogs? Happy Easter, here’s my vase for today: https://myhesperidesgarden.wordpress.com/2017/04/17/in-a-vase-on-easter-monday-jewel-colours-and-some-froth/
Thanks Christina – I nearly said in the post that the blooms were the best that spring has to offer, but that wouldn’t be the case as there are so many other things too. The first frogs I got came from eBay but were a base metal and rusted which doesn’t do the blooms or th vase any good; the stainless steel ones came from Sarah Raven but she only had 2 sizes, the biggest of which must only be about 2″ and I could do with something bigger. I must google to find out where else I could get them from.
I bought some at Christmas when I went to a florist supper when I did the flowers for my MIL’s funeral. I’ll find the details and send it to you. They do mail order and have a large stock.
Thanks Christina – oh, and I am emailing you about possibly meeting up
that blur rib lights it up, so good
Eline ‘s fine scent on my desk today for Cathy’s in a vase on Monday in floral-fun.blogspot.com
Thanks Joanna – I wanted something blue or green blue for a background to suggest the sea, and this is in fact a towel!
Happy Easter Cathy. Your spring concoction is full of loveliness and captures the season perfectly. I like the Easter island prop too. Busy here today with family visiting, but I have a vase to share:
https://pbmgarden.wordpress.com/2017/04/17/in-a-vase-on-monday-ranunculus/
Thanks Susie – it was good to use a large range of blooms. The figure was available in all sorts of sizes, but I thought this would be the most useful (and it was the cheapest too!)

Gorgeous – like an Easter firework!
Here’s mine, all chaos chez Duver Diary this weekend, but just managed to squeeze in some picking and plonking!
Thanks Jen – I hope it was enjoyable chaos!
Such a delicate floriferous bouquet today. Happy IAVOM.
Thanks Lisa – I wasn’t sure how some of the more delicate blooms would fare, like the campion and viola and clematis, but so far, so good.

Spring in a vase! Gorgeous tumble of Easter colours – just like a living sugar egg. Here is my offering for Easter Monday: https://gardendreamingatchatillon.wordpress.com/2017/04/17/in-a-vase-on-monday-11/
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend.
Thanks Cathy – I was thinking of the sugar coated eggs as I wrote the post but had decided not to include any as a prop because they didn’t really fit in with the island theme, Been to a car boot this morning but it was grey and a bit damp so there weren’t as many booters as there usually would be 😦
I guess because it’s Easter? Our vide-greniers don’t really start until end of April.

Mmm, bluebells! How lovely! They don’t grow in the wild here and are hard to get to grow in my garden too, so any glimpse of them is a pleasure. I love the whole effect, with the island vase at the base. Here is mine for today Cathy. https://wordsandherbs.com/2017/04/17/in-a-vase-on-monday-swan-wings/
Thanks Cathy – I suppose this is why they are called the ‘English’ bluebell? Sorry it is hard to get them to grow in your garden as I would happily send you some if you wanted.
I have tried in several spots, but only one or two appear just one spring and that’s it!
Hi Cathy, thanks for sharing another beautiful bouquet. I love the colour and variety and the little Easter island prop. Check Mitchell and Webb on Radio 4 (series 4, ep 5) for a jolly good sketch about Easter Island. Let’s just say the god really liked the massive statues but thought it quite a shame that all the trees, food, and people had to be destroyed to make them.
My vase this week is a mixed bag of my plentiful quince blossom and bluebells, with a few new blooms from the garden this week.
Hi Jen – I shall try and make time to hear that episode 🙂
The Easter Island prop is wonderful, I would like one! As are the flowers – I haven’t seen any Campion in years and used to love it til it took over my garden. A perfect array of Easter pastels. Easter pastels from Florida:http://theshrubqueen.com/2017/04/17/in-a-vase-on-monday-pastels-for-easter
Thanks – and if the campion threatened to take over here too it would be kicked out!
I gave up on it due to seeding and seeding…
How pretty in those soft colours, it’s lovely to bring a reminder of all the spring blooms into the house for times when we have to stay in. It’s an interesting vase too and your figure of course, lots of fun. Here is my spring posy: http://ablogaboutcompost.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/in-vase-on-monday-spring-posy.html
Thanks Alison – it was good to have a free rein when picking the blooms for this one, just snipping whatever took my fancy
A celebration of the abundance of spring! Love your Easter island head. Thanks for the smile this morning! My offering is here: http://outlawgarden.blogspot.com/2017/04/in-vase-on-monday-happy-easter.html
Thanks Peter – it’s good to make people smile 🙂
What an uplifting vase for Easter time. Spring flowers are suddenly appearing here as it has warmed up and the sun has stayed for more than an hour at a time. I love your little Tulip coming up through the purple-splotched Geranium leaves in the post below. What a great combo. My vase is here:

Thanks Linda – I am glad spring is now visiting you too 🙂
Your post does not seem to be available, LInda, but I will try again later…

Ha ha, I love the little Easter Island figure. You always have the right prop to hand! Lots of lovely spring blooms you have here, and many echoed in my own vase in different types, colours and shades, which is fun to see. I recognise that vase from a previous post – it suits the colours of the flowers well. Here’s mine – I enjoyed getting back to my flowers this weekend at long last! https://edinburghgardendiary.com/2017/04/17/easter-whites/
Thanks Joanne – the little figure was a great buy, wasn’t it? I am so pleased to hear from you as it seems ages and I hope all is OK with you both and with your Mum
Oh yes, all well with us, just horrifically busy of late!
Sugary pastels indeed – scrumptious in combination! I love the forget-me-not like flowers of the Brunnera. The Easter Island figure is another perfect addition to your prop collection, which is surely going to need its own room soon?! Here’s my post: https://krispgarden.blogspot.com/2017/04/in-vase-on-monday-tad-simpler.html
A belated Happy Easter, Cathy and thanks, as always for hosting!
Thanks Kris – it sounds as if it should be like one of those walk-in wardrobes/closets that people with lots of clothes/space/money have 😉 However, although my vases are in an old wardrobe my ‘props’ are very much just here and there (or there and here!)…
A lovely spring arrangement, Cathy! The pink tulips and bleeding hearts are standouts for me. Vase and props are terrific finds. My vase this week: http://wp.me/p3O3z4-1Iy
Thanks Eliza – I wasn’t sure how well the dicentra would stand up to being cut for a vase but so far, so good
I love the view from above, such a perfectly balanced arrangement both in form and color. My (very) simple vases are here: http://www.thedangergarden.com/2017/04/in-vase-on-monday-kitchen-brights.html
Thnaks Loree – I try and include an overhead view for most of my vases now as they offer a surprisingly different perspective on a vase.
Perfect! My vase: http://timpingradina.blogspot.ro/2017/04/in-vase-on-monday-little-flower-power.html
Thanks Anca
Oh such a fitting celebration Cathy. We’re really spoilt for choice this year with Easter being late. I’ve made a note to add that gorgeous tulipa ‘Little Beauty’ to my wish list. Off shortly to see if Peter Nyssen stock it 🙂 I’m awol today but will enjoy a voyage of vase hopping.
Thanks Anna – and yes, Little Beauty was from Peter Nyssen but I shall put some aside for you. Will email to make sure you know this 😉
Beautiful 🙂
Thank you 🙂
Very pretty, Cathy, and just right for the festive weekend. The wild red campion is a nice touch and its colour works well with the dainty tulip too.
Thanks Kate, and the campion is just in the woodland and by the path alongside it so I am quite happy to let it frolic 😉
Pingback: In a Vase on Monday- Rain and Way Early Narcissus – Absent Gardener
Your vase this week has a lovely feeling of a ‘handful of wildflowers’ for me. Very pretty and suited to the vase. I have a similar bit of crockery which I actually did dig up out of my back garden years ago, I will have to try it for a little bouquet – I think it was a sugar bowl. Here is my simple vase, a bit late: https://absentgardener.com/2017/04/18/in-a-vase-on-monday-rain-and-way-early-narcissus
Thanks Cath – I see what you mean about the ‘wildflower’ look. What an intriguing thing to dig up out of your garden – do show it to us one of these days
A beautiful assemblage of gorgeous flowers. Lovely, as always. I have two vases this week to make up for missing last week.
Thanks John , and it’s OK, you can have time off for good behaviour (unlike me)!
Lovely sugar candy colours for your pretty Easter arrangement Cathy. A pretty selection of spring flowers.
They have lasted quite well too, which I wasn’t sure about
This is lovely – really beautiful colour combinations 🙂 and I love the vase too. I’ve got tulips in my vase – and it’s my first vase since December – hopefully I can pick, photograph and write about a few more vases. I know it’s good for me to be out in the garden. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s vases – I love tulips 🙂 thank you so much for everything. lots love Bec xx
Thanks Bec – spmetimes the combination of blooms in my vases take me surprise, things I might not have thought of picking or not considered would go well together. That’s another reason why IAVOM is such an enjoyable meme. I am pleased that you have been able to get out in your garden
