End of Month View for a Grey January

The monthly records I keep of electricity generation from our solar panels confirm how grey this month has been, with less sun this January than other since we first had the panels in 2011. It has not been especially rainy but we have just come out of a fortnight or so of chilly days and nights, although with only very brief evidence of snow. This week has seen a slight improvement in temperatures and the heaters have been turned off in the greenhouses, but it is still damp and grey. Fortunately, amidst the mostly uninspiring borders there are a few highlights  in the garden to distract me from the weather and add colour to my rambles.

Helen the Patient Gardener hosts this end of month meme so after you have rambled through this slideshow do visit her blog too to find links to similar posts describing how the end of January looks in other gardens.

The down side of using lots of wonderful perennials and annuals is that the garden does look a bit uninspiring in mid winter, but hey, it will soon be spring.

Seeing the bare bones of the garden on a grey January day is enough to send most of us indoors and hope that spring will come early.

A very impressive slideshow, I still haven’ t got the hang of that. It is milder now but oh dear me, it is so wet and gloomy. What’ s a gardener to do?

    • Cathy says:

I worked it out by trial and error in the first place but think I have got to grips with it now – I could talk you through it in an email if you like? A video would be good for EOMV but our free plans aren’t as generous, although I am now paying for and romping through extra storage now. This gardener is going to strip some wallpaper

  4. It is always interesting to see what your garden looks like. Mine is quite barren right now. Our January was 7 degrees warmer than usual. Birds are singing like it is spring. Crazy.

    • Cathy says:

On the slightly milder days the birds are chattering, but otherwise they are still not very active – just like humans I suppose! Your higher temps will make a difference to your garden though

Great slideshow despite the grey. Thanks for promoting the meme
