New Year Clearance Offer!

img_8703As part the planting improvements in the garden I decided last autumn that the roses in the rose garden would benefit visually from being underplanted with grasses, having finally recognised their value throughout the garden. I intend to plant around the outer edge with divisions of some existing Uncinia rubra and use purchased Hakonechloa in the two main beds. No decision had been made on the beds either side of the Bus Shelter (one shown above) other than to ditch the ‘Magic Carpet’ roses in the large urns and plant them up with long flowering annuals instead.

In the slate chippings around the urns are Rosa ‘The Fairy’ which dutifully produce a small number of blooms (but only a small number), and although I considered interplanting them with feathery Stipa tenuissima in truth I had never been happy with their underperformance and instead considered their removal too. I am sure these roses would all perform better in a different location, but removing them would leave me with 4 Fairies and Three Magic Carpets and try as I might there were just no alternative places to be found in the garden – SO, could any of my UK blogging friends give them a home? I would gladly rehouse them in ones or twos, or the whole lot, to anyone who could make use of them – after all, I have been the recipient of many a cutting or plant or packet of seed over the years and sharing is a two-way process, so please take advantage of this special New Year clearance offer! Jut let me know.

  1. Your rose garden will look very different. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing. I hope someone can give your plants a new home.

Thanks Lisa, sometimes there are bits of the garden that keep niggling until you decide you have just got to do something abut them!

I would love to be in the running for your offer, but, alas (sigh) I’m just a bit too far.Happy Improvements!

I have found that roses never perform very well in pots, perhaps they need more care than I can give them.

hi cathy, please could I have a fairy rose? does it need much faffing? as I’m not a rose expert by any means – and could I ask my mum if she wants a magic carpet – she has a slope in front of her lounge window it’s a bit of an odd place – gets lots of sun. no problem if you’ve given them away to someone else – we are going down to Berkshire to visit my mum in feb so could pick up then?
    love bec xx

You are very welcome to all of them if you want Bec, or just some of them – let me know how many. Theoretically they are both good doers, given the right location. Just prune over winter – main stem by a third, side shoots to 2 or 3 buds – but I will have done that already. It would be lovely to meet you if you were able to call in – how exciting! 🙂
