The Leaf Police Dismisseth Us

IMG_6152The trees get dressed
Each year in spring,
Their finest frocks
And glitziest bling,
Till fully clothed
They stand serene
In varying shades
Of fashionable green.
All summer long
They stand and preen
Till autumn comes
And sets the scene.
The leaf thief
Bides his time
Then moves
In silent stealth
To crime.
Just petty pilfering
At the start,
He is well practised
In his art,
Till finally
The vault is empty
Leaving evidence a-plenty.
But though the scene
Is strewn with clues
We always fail
To catch the accused…

It’s always a delight to read one of your timely poems Cathy. I’m sure it’s been said before, but you should publish an anthology. Beautiful photos too, especially your Paperbark maple against the soft blue gate.

  2. Brilliant poem Cathy. You are clever 🙂

Great poem. The past two days have been very breezy and it was amazing the large volume of leaves that fell – mostly oaks. Now to the clean up!

I agree with the others – that poem is really really good. You have a busy time ahead collecting all those leaves in awkward places.
