Hi-lili, Hi-lo

Fatsia japonicaThere was an overwhelming sense of greenness in the garden today – the sky was blue and there was a hint of warmth in the sun, even though the temperature was only about 7 degrees. After the frost and the rain (the latter bringing further floods to the saturated floodplain) the garden looked bright and clean and almost luscious in that greenness. All a December illusion I suppose, and yet this Fatsia japonica will always  bring an exotic and tropical air to any garden – I missed the early emergence of its intriguing flowers yesterday, being too busy searching at ground level for pre-Spring surprises to notice this eye-level treat.
