Weather-Beaten Wednesday

It seems strangely calm today as the flood waters recede and some of our local impassable routes are once more becoming viable alternatives. The wind had dropped, there has been no rain and even a little sunshine again – but this distracts us from the sharp drop in temperature and a change in the prevailing wind direction as we hear of the possibility of snow in places by the weekend. We are travelling to Wiltshire on Friday, so will I be posting pictures of Snowy Stonehenge and Arctic Avebury, I wonder?

I still resist the notion of a wordless Wednesday, but have kept my post brief, leaving you with this curious but matchless picture of the remains of a stem of  Arum italicum ‘Marmoratum’:

I will be coming back the other way in all the frost and ice! Lots of sunshine here today, but ever so cold while working in the garden, good to get out again after all the rain.

Let’s trust we both have safe and happy journeyings! Unfortunately I haven’t had time for any working in the garden this week, either in the wet or the cold – there’s something to be said for that first short nose-biting finger-freezing foray into winter gardening (although I’m not quite sure what!)…
