‘Overleafed’ is how the Golfer described himself after willingly devoting an afternoon to sweeping up most of the leaf crunchiness that has accumulated recently, whilst I armed myself with my favourite secateurs and built up this nice heap of trimmings – geranium, astrantia, heuchera stems, crocosmia, tradescantia, overstretched jasmine, vitis and rose, the tangled tresses of clematis alpini – off went their heads. Proof that there must be something strange in the air that brought about this primitive desire to wield a new broom and sweep clean – we cleaned all the windows before we began our work in the garden, both inside and out. What is the world coming to?! Whatever next?!
