Come closer,
Don’t tell –
My head is hung
In shame.
Pride at my
Timely dealing
With apples
(scabby, but ours)
Came before my fall
(and theirs).
Are you ready?
I have bought apples…….
You should make
Out of me.
Too late!
I have made
Out of them.
(* on buying cooking apples for the first time in 18+ years due to prompt preparing and freezing of own crop whilst forgetting to keep some back for making mincemeat)

Making mincemeat – now that’s something I’ve never got round to -maybe I should when we have so many Bramleys!

Pauline – you MUST try making your own mincemeat (when your shoulder allows). You will never buy it again as there is just no comparison! I shall be posting the recipe soon – it keeps for at least a year and matures over that time so tastes even better then.

A cautionary tale which made me smile Cathy but you have done well to have reached eighteen years without using shop bought.

I can link it to how long we have been here with our reliable Bramleys (but I miscalculated as it’s actually only 16 years – feels like forever though) ), although for a number of years before that I used to pick from an abandoned orchard we found by accident; I could have risked using ones I had frozen, but decided not to chance it. When I was working, the October half term ritual was to deal with the last of the apples and make the mincemeat, plus make Christmas cake and pudding (no apples for these). Shall I blame it on retirement then?
