  1. Cathy says:

Quotation from Coco Chanel in 1939, describing lace: “I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature; lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin.”

    Thank you for the quote.

  3. beautiful Cathy, photo and prose, Frances

    • Cathy says:

I was looking for a frosty photo opportunity and could see that the detailing on this web would look great in close up – which it did, just like lace, and hence the quote. So the prose is not mine, just found be me – see the first comment to read the full quote, by Coco Chanel. So thanks, but I can’t take all the credit!

      • I did read your comment, stop worrying people know it’s by Coco Chanel you have given credit, and she is right about lace imitating nature as all early design work was inspired by nature, lace in particular, Frances

        • Cathy says:

I didn’t know that it was a well-known lace quotation, Frances – I just Googled for a lace quote and it fitted perfectly. Also didn’t realise that lace design in particular was inspired by nature, so thanks for the education! I knew you embroidered, but do you have a textile background generally?
